{"id":1866,"date":"2012-04-17T17:18:58","date_gmt":"2012-04-17T17:18:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/craftydba.com\/?p=1866"},"modified":"2012-04-18T15:33:12","modified_gmt":"2012-04-18T15:33:12","slug":"odbc-connection","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/craftydba.com\/?p=1866","title":{"rendered":"ODBC Connection"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/ODBC\">ODBC<\/a> standard was developed in the early 1990&#8217;s to allow a software developer to use a single interface to access mutltiple data sources.  <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ms_access\">Microsoft Access<\/a> is a very versatile application since it can import or link to a variety of ODBC data sources.  <\/p>\n<p>Today&#8217;s article will cover how to define a new ODBC connection.  I will be using the [WILD LIFE] database that was created in a earlier <a href=\"https:\/\/craftydba.com\/?p=1421\">article<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>First step is to open to the administrator tools on the windows operating system.  You can find this group under your control panel shortcut.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/craftydba.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/1-odbc-admin-tools.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/craftydba.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/1-odbc-admin-tools.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"1-odbc-admin-tools\" width=\"615\" height=\"555\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1871\" srcset=\"https:\/\/craftydba.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/1-odbc-admin-tools.jpg 615w, https:\/\/craftydba.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/1-odbc-admin-tools-300x270.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 615px) 100vw, 615px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Second step is to launch the ODBC administrator program so that a system wide DNS can be defined.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/craftydba.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/2-odbc-admin-program.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/craftydba.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/2-odbc-admin-program.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"2-odbc-admin-program\" width=\"473\" height=\"396\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1872\" srcset=\"https:\/\/craftydba.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/2-odbc-admin-program.jpg 473w, https:\/\/craftydba.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/2-odbc-admin-program-300x251.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 473px) 100vw, 473px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Third step is to lauch the ODBC wizard by clicking the add button.
