This includes Microsoft Windows Servers running your SQL Server Database engine.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/craftydba.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/just-say-no.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/craftydba.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/just-say-no.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"just-say-no\" width=\"225\" height=\"225\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-1967\" srcset=\"https:\/\/craftydba.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/just-say-no.jpg 225w, https:\/\/craftydba.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/just-say-no-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Do not let security administrators scan your database files and make your 2012 Dell xeon with eight cores perform like a 1996 Gateway Pentium 4 single core.  <\/p>\n<p>I have seen the results of antivirus software scanning the database files while I am trying to execute basic queries.  <\/p>\n<p>It is extremely painful.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>With that said.  Please make sure your security administrator is not scanning the following files.<\/p>\n<table border=\"1\" cellspacing=\"1\" cellpadding=\"1\" width=\"75\" align=\"left\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"border: thin solid gray;\">*.mdf<\/td>\n<td style=\"border: thin solid gray;\">primary data files<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"border: thin solid gray;\">*.ndf<\/td>\n<td style=\"border: thin solid gray;\">secondary data files<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"border: thin solid gray;\">*.ldf<\/td>\n<td style=\"border: thin solid gray;\">log files<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"border: thin solid gray;\">*.bak<\/td>\n<td style=\"border: thin solid gray;\">backup files<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"border: thin solid gray;\">*.trn<\/td>\n<td style=\"border: thin solid gray;\">transaction files<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"border: thin solid gray;\">*.trc<\/td>\n<td style=\"border: thin solid gray;\">trace files<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Other important directories that should not be scanned are the following.  <\/p>\n<table border=\"1\" cellspacing=\"1\" cellpadding=\"1\" width=\"75\" align=\"left\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"border: thin solid gray;\">\\backup<\/td>\n<td style=\"border: thin solid gray;\">default directory for backup files<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"border: thin solid gray;\">\\data<\/td>\n<td style=\"border: thin solid gray;\">default directory for data files<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"border: thin solid gray;\">\\log<\/td>\n<td style=\"border: thin solid gray;\">default directory for error, log, dump files<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"border: thin solid gray;\">\\ftdata<\/td>\n<td style=\"border: thin solid gray;\">default directory for full text index files<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"border: thin solid gray;\">\\repldata<\/td>\n<td style=\"border: thin solid gray;\">default directory for snapshot &#038; replication data files<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"border: thin solid gray;\">user defined ntfs share<\/td>\n<td style=\"border: thin solid gray;\">directory for filestream blobs<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Most of these sub-directories are in the default installation path.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;C:\\Program Files\\Microsoft SQL Server\\MSSQL10_50.MSSQLSERVER\\MSSQL&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Files are constantly being created or updated in theses directories.
